Allegheny Equine Veterinary Service/Allegheny Veterinary Service is looking for a motivated associate to join us in a high quality growing practice! The perfect candidate has at least one year of experience and is familiar with equine, beef, goat, swine, and sheep industries. The position is 50/50 large animal and small animal. Large animal case load is heavier in Spring and Summer. Small animal case load is heavier in Fall and Winter.

Interested applicants should be able to communicate effectively with clients, staff and colleagues. Great bedside manner is a must! Candidates must be confident and willing to see cases on their own in the field. We are looking for someone interested in growing the practice long term and expanding services particularly ruminant herd services, equine reproductive services, small animal dentistry or small animal orthopedics. Certification in acupuncture and chiropractic is a bonus.

DVM or equivalent, West Virginia Licensure and USDA Accreditation are required.

Practice Description
The practice started in 2005 as an ambulatory only service and in 2015 opened a 5000 square foot hospital complete with recovery stall, stocks, ICU stalls, heated treatment area and paddocks. An additional 6 stall barn was constructed in 2017. We are very vested in the community and active with local horse associations and 4-H. The practice sees primarily pleasure and trail horses with some western performance, endurance, and small breeding operations. Large animal patient load is primarily equine with occasional beef cattle and small ruminants. Practice is equipped with digital x-ray, digital ultrasound, electronic medical records, Abaxis lab, tonometry, and advanced dentistry equipment. The practice is located just off of a new interstate with easy access for trailers.

We pride ourselves on combing high quality medicine with concierge level service. Annual exams are a standard and help us build long lasting relationships with our clients. The practice currently draws from a two-hour radius and the nearest referral center is four hours. Since expanding with a new location, the practice has also developed a busy small animal practice that includes services from preventative care and elective surgery to orthopedic surgery. Appointments for both the large and small animal patients are Monday-Friday. Emergency service is offered to our regular clients. Doctors receive large production bonuses for emergencies that are seen. Emergency call is split among the doctors.

Support staff includes, a large animal coordinator and practice manager (with the practice 11 years), two receptionists, and a large animal technician. Small animal technicians are available to assist with in-clinic cases. Large animal technician will be provided during orientation period and as needed depending on case load. We are a growing practice and have established excellent training programs and hospital protocols for both the large animal and small animal staff. All staff members have required continuing education.

Area
Elkins is located adjacent to the million acre Monongahela National Forest. Canaan Valley, Timberline and Snowshoe mountain ski resorts are within our regular practice area. The area is rural and an outdoor mecca with abundant native streams, hiking, and skiing. A small liberal arts college is located here and hosts a heritage arts festival for ten weeks every summer. Cost of living is low in this area.

Compensation & Benefits
Benefits include paid vacation, paid holidays, retirement program, continuing education expense, professional liability insurance, state license, professional memberships (AVMA, AAEP, WVVMA, VIN), uniform expense, and cell phone. Pay is commensurate on experience and competitive with industry standards. Pay will depend on part time or full time, large animal or mixed. Straight salary with emergency bonuses. Pay based on production or pro-sal will be considered for experienced practitioners.

Veterinarian for Spay/Neuter Clinic – Full-Time or Part-Time
Do you want to lead an exiting new venture to manage unwanted pet overpopulation? The Fix’Em Clinic, a High Quality, High Volume, Low Cost Spay/Neuter clinic in Charleston, West Virginia, is seeking a veterinarian to perform surgical sterilizations and wellness services. We are an organization passionate about preventing the unnecessary suffering and euthanasia of cats and dogs due to overpopulation and preventable diseases. You will be supported by a skilled staff in a newly remodeled facility equipped with new state of the art equipment. As a Humane Alliance approved clinic, all staff will receive specialized training at their headquarters in Asheville, NC.

Responsibilities include: providing high volume, high quality, dog and car spay/neuter surgeries; ensuring safe, effective, and efficient medical procedures; and providing wellness services. Candidates must have a strong work ethic and a commitment to reducing companion and feral animal overpopulation, and maintain the highest standards possible in our field.

Candidates will need to be able to thrive in a high volume, fast paced environment. Training will be provided by Humane Alliance on techniques for high quality, high volume spay/neuter. A DVM degree from an accredited school of veterinary medicine and West Virginia license to provide veterinary medicine are required. Experience working as a spay/neuter surgeon and/or background in small animal medicine is preferred but new graduates are welcome to apply. Candidate must have a positive attitude and be committed to treating animals and staff with kindness and respect.

Regular work days are Monday-Friday, with availability to work some Saturdays shifts. However, work hours are negotiable and surgery schedules may be revised to fit a 4-day schedule with an occasional Saturday. If you are interested in working less than a 40 hour work week there is an option to work part-time and share a work-week with another veterinarian on a negotiated basis. Salary is very competitive at $90,000 (full time) and based on experience. Hours will be regular and predictable, so you have time to devote to family and other favorite pursuits.

Excellent benefits include PTO, paid CE’s, relocation reimbursement, paid licensing, medical insurance, and paid holidays. Part-time employee benefits will differ from full-time.
